Apple v Samsung: Jury finds Samsung guilty on all products
This has been the most closely watched trial in modern tech history and the two giants fighting could change the world.
Bets were on that Apple would win, but the recent judicial decision in South Korea made a lot of people think we might see a similar outcome in the USA.
Apple had claimed a total of $2.5bn in damages. Samsung had sought $519m.
When asked whether Samsung was willful in its infringement and should have known it was infringing Apple’s IP, the jury verdict was no for both Galaxy Tab models, which one would expect means the damages will not be as high. But…
Damages rewarded to Apple: $1,051,855,000 - yes, 1 Billion dollars!!
What’s worse - the jury denied all of Samsung’s patent claims, which means they have to pay all that money to Apple and can recover nothing. Moreover, there’s a good chance they’ll be barred from selling most of their infringing products in the USA
